Ingredients:

  • 2 jars of grape leaves (approx 60 leaves)

  • 3 cups of uncooked rice

  • 3 pounds of ground meat (lamb, beef, or turkey)

  • 1 chopped onion

  • 1 teaspoon of Allspice

  • 2 teaspoons of mint

  • Salt, pepper and garlic

  • Juice of 6 lemons

Special Cooking Items:

  • A heavy flat lid or plate that just fits inside the cooking pot.

Preparation Instructions:
  • Cook rice as directed.

  • Add rice to raw ground meat and mix with spices and onions.

  • Drain jars of grape leaves

  • Roll meat and rice mixture tightly in leaf.

  • Layer rolled leaves in a pot and cover with water and lemon juice.

  • Place a heavy lid or plate inside the pot and on top of the leaves.  (This keeps the grape leaves from unraveling when cooking.)
