Desert View

Up Grand Canyon Village Desert View

Desert View is 25 miles east of the Grand Canyon Village.  At 7,438 feet, this point of the canyon is the highest of the south rim.  It has a fantastic panoramic view and a distinctive 75 foot stone tower that was architected by Mary Colter and built in 1932 with Hopi Indian labor.  All of the pictures taken from this vantage point was in the evening when the sun was beginning to set.  When looking out at the canyon, one can see the start of the painted desert off to the right.

The Colorado can be seen from this vantage point.

Tried to capture the sun just peeking over the tower's wall

My Sweetie Pie

She's warm here, but as the sun set it got much colder.

Don't do this at home kids.

This is one of my favorite shots

Canyon cliffs against the evening sun.

The sun was beginning to set and brought a lot of reds out of the rocks.

We swapped photos with other visitors and got this shot with the full moon and painted desert in the background.
