New Hope Train Ride - July, 2002

This was a great idea. Rather than being trapped inside a mall, we decided to go to New Hope and ride the steam train to Lahaska. Now, you must be aware, Natalie is a Thomas the Engine nut. This train didn't have a name so I had to make one up. His name was "Fordy". I told Natalie that Fordy was one of Thomas' favorite friends and that we were going to ride on the train just like Thomas when he pulls Annie and Clarabell. Why "Fordy"?  The train's number was, of course, "40".

It was pretty cool watching them get the train ready for the ride.  We saw them load up and shovel coal into the furnace.  We also watched them add water to the boiler.

Needless to say, Natalie loved the train and was even able to enjoy her peanut butter and jelly sandwich during the ride.. The trip is about 45 minutes long and for the hot and humid days there is an air-conditioned parlor car that has food and snacks. If you park at the station its about $8 but you get a $2 coupon toward your train ticket. Adults cost $9.95, Senior $8.95, and kids 2-11 pay $6.95.

The real Thomas is coming to New Hope in November.  We're just going to have to come back.

For your enjoyment here is a recording of "Fordy" as it pulled away from the station.
